capturing footage

I am about to start editing for someone who edits with avid on a pc. he owns a mac book with final cut express installed on it. He would prefer not to have to give me his tapes for capture and would like to capture the video himself and provide it to me on a hard drive. Is that possible without him having fcp? Will the footage open up in fcp if captured into final cut express? or is there any other options?

Yes, capturing in Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro are the same thing when it comes to capturing.
