At the Nov 09 monthly meeting, I was asked about a scratch disk dilemma. Problem: Shooting four on-going projects that will take a long time to finish shooting and editing. More footage than will fit on a 1TB drive. PITA to keep resetting the scr...

Yes, internal SATA drives are way, way faster and give better performance than FW drives. And FW800 way outperforms FW400. Also, if you're doing any flavor of HD, internal SATA drives are a MUST. 1TB that's super fast is less than $200 (WD at Othe...

Motion files in FCP do not react as fast as QT files. But there should not be any slow downs to anything except rendering and playback of those specific Motion files. Can you be more precise about what exactly is slowing down, and your system spe...

Oh the selection these days is numerous. Hard plastic cases are really of good quality these days. You get them filled with foam, and pinch out little squares to customize the shape to fit any hardware you want to put in them. Remember when measur...

Short clip for digital signage system. Produced in Motion 4 and SoundTrack Pro 3. The only keyframing is for the Camera position, all manually done. Except the first photo, layers sparated out in PhotoShop, then animated in Motion. The only behavi...

Best bet for quality, IF you're making a living with this, and have clients to answer to, are either DVDxDV, or Cinematize. Both do great jobs. The rest are freeware, work "ok", and have very limited options. Plus, you don't get the customer servi...

How are you transcoding from .VOB to Pro Res, exactly? Something in the transcode is not converting the audio properly. What is the sample rate of the audio in the .VOB files? Mini-DVD, which means recorded from a DV cam, right?

I wish I could get out more on boats to do some photography. It's pretty hard to get a bad shot in such a beautiful place. Yep, I'm really interested in the CamHandle. Those Lectro receivers are a pain to attach to the camera. We have another type of bracket that works okay, but I don't like it as much. I missed the last couple meetings with all the family and work events going on, but plan to make the next one.
See ya

How do you use Final Cut Studio:
I'm an Apple Certified Trainer for:
Final Cut Pro, Motion Graphics & Effects, DVD Studio Pro, Color, and Final Cut Server.

I'm a retired IT engineer, and still use these skills in my media production IT and creative consulting work.

I also teach at NOVAC's AATC division, and at the Delgado/LTC video program.

I created the "Cut Lines" monthly FCS tutorial column in Event DV magazine, and contribute to Edit Well by Larry Jordan.

When I'm not taking a class or or teaching, I am an independent producer, produce training videos, and enjoy life.

My HVX200 After 2 Years, Taking A Moment To Look Back...

My HVX200 After 2 Years

I've been shooting with an HVX200 for about two years now. I love DVCPRO-HD and I love the looks I can get with this camera. After all this time, I find myself in the largest production of my career, and needing to upgrade to a larger, more HD network compatible camera. Thus, I'm reflecting on how this little HVX has served me over the past two years. Of course the big question is do I keep it or sell it? Will it still earn it's keep,… Continue
